In the Market Place, Chippenham Museum and Heritage Centre tells the story of the town from prehistoric times to the present day, with displays on the river, road and railway that shaped it. Monkton Park is Chippenham's largest green space, with riverside paths along the Avon, play areas and room for a picnic. Established in 1890, North Wilts Golf Club is one of the oldest golf clubs in Wiltshire. It is situated high on the downlands of the county, with spectacular views over the surrounding countryside. The chalk base allows for free draining and the 18 hole par 71 course offers a real test to golfers of all standards. Having ten holes on one side of the Devizes to Calne road and eight on the other, the course offers the member a natural opportunity for a "short round" if this is desired. This feature also allows a natural break in the longer round where one can stock up on drinks, snacks and even balls if need be! Thanks to its high elevation, the course offers some of the most spectacular views to be found in Wiltshire.
